My name is Gia Chau Ly, and I am honored to join the BCCF team. Currently, I study Social Service Work, and I have a deep appreciation of connecting people within their communities in order to help them thrive.
Throughout my upbringing, I noticed that food served as one of the greatest ways in which people connect with each other. By sharing meals and participating in activities related to food, I understood that food is the best medium to create comfort and connections. Now, having spent some time at the farm, I have started appreciating the fact that gardening and sustainable food production can be beneficial for the mental health, education, and well-being of the local communities.
I have an interest in outdoor activities, including urban agriculture and composting, along with environmental sustainability, and I love how the community spaces like BCCF serve as a way to unify different individuals with various experiences and cultural backgrounds. Everyone deserves to have healthy food and a comfortable environment in which they feel welcome and included.
By virtue of this placement on the farm, I aim to build upon my knowledge of food justice, community involvement, and environmental activism. I am pleased to be in an environment where learning takes place along with building relationships.
