The 2025 season is off to an incredible start! Black Creek Community Farm had the privilege of participating in Evergreen Brick Works’ Seedy Weekend, and what an experience it was! From meaningful conversations with community members to exciting new partnerships, the event was a huge success.
A Market to Remember!
At our very first market of the year, we made an amazing start—bringing in great sales! Our fresh spinach, hot sauce, and honey flew off the shelves, and our community gift bags were a hit. Beyond the numbers, these sales directly support our mission to bring fresh, local, and culturally relevant food to the Jane-Finch community and beyond.
But the real magic of the weekend wasn’t just about sales—it was about connection, education, and engagement.
Community Engagement at Its Best
Our booth was buzzing with energy as visitors stopped by to learn more about BCCF, test their seed knowledge in a fun and surprisingly competitive matching game, and explore ways to get involved. The enthusiasm was infectious!
From sparking curiosity in kids to engaging adults in conversations about food sovereignty, the event reminded us of the power of community. One of our favorite moments? A young visitor who, after playing our seed game, came back later just to share her seeds with us—a beautiful reflection of the connections we’re cultivating!
New Partnerships & Exciting Opportunities
Beyond the event, we made some incredible connections that will help expand our work in food justice and sustainability. From opportunities to collaborate on soil regeneration and urban farming initiatives to invitations for future markets and events, the relationships built this weekend will help us continue to grow—literally and figuratively!
A Promising Year Ahead
Seedy Weekend was just the beginning of what’s shaping up to be an exciting 2025 season. The enthusiasm and support from the community, our team, and new partners inspire us to keep pushing forward in our mission for food justice, sustainability, and community empowerment.
A huge thank you to everyone who visited our booth, supported our market, and engaged with us at Seedy Weekend! Stay tuned for more events, fresh produce, and new ways to get involved at BCCF.
