FACES OF BCCF: MEET FARZANA!

Hey everyone! I’m Farzana, and I’m thrilled to be a part of Black Creek Community Farm as an Administrative Assistant trainee!

From the moment I stepped into BCCF, I knew this was more than just a farm—it’s a movement, a community, and a resilience hub where real change happens. As someone studying Business and Society, I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of social justice and sustainability. This placement has been an incredible opportunity to connect my studies to real-world impact and I love being part of a team that is deeply committed to food justice and community empowerment.

Why Food Justice Matters to Me:

I’m originally from Bangladesh, a developing country that has suffered from multiple famines throughout history. Because of this, the people of my land deeply understand the importance of food security and the power of local, sustainable food systems. Seeing firsthand how food insecurity affects entire communities has shaped my passion for food justice, making my work at BCCF even more meaningful. I feel honored to contribute to an organization that prioritizes food access, sustainability, and community resilience.

What I’ve Been Working On:

At BCCF, I’ve been diving into donor management—organizing data in spreadsheets, generating revenue reports, and learning the ropes of eTapestry (which has been a fun challenge!). More than just spreadsheets, I’m getting a firsthand look at how fundraising fuels grassroots initiatives, and that’s been incredibly rewarding.

What I’m Looking Forward To:

There’s so much to learn here and with big things planned for the farm ahead, I’m only more excited for what’s coming next! I can’t wait to gain deeper insights into nonprofit operations, food systems, and community engagement. I also love storytelling, so I hope to contribute by capturing some of the amazing work happening at the farm—whether through writing, photography, or social media. And of course, I’m excited to get my hands dirty and experience more of the farm in action!

Fun Facts About Me:

When I’m not working on spreadsheets, you can probably find me exploring local markets, diving into a good book, or hitting the pavement for a fun run. I recently started running for fun, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite ways to clear my head and stay active. I love learning new skills, whether it’s about nonprofit operations, community organizing, or simply finding better ways to tell impactful stories. If you ever want to chat about social justice, sustainability, or even share running tips, I’m your person!

This experience has already been so fulfilling, and I feel incredibly grateful to be surrounded by such passionate, driven people. Can’t wait for what’s ahead!
