My name is Nana Afia Pokuaa Appiah-Kubi, and I am thrilled to join the team at Black Creek Community Farm (BCCF) as the new Administrative Assistant trainee. I am a placement student taking Project Management at North Eastern University. It is an honor to become part of an organization dedicated to fostering community connections, advancing food justice, and promoting sustainability. This opportunity allows me to contribute my skills while reconnecting with my roots in farming and community building.
I come from Ghana, where agriculture is not only an essential part of our economy but also a deeply ingrained way of life. Growing up, I gained valuable farming experience, learning how to cultivate crops and care for the land. These experiences taught me the importance of hard work, resilience, and the interconnectedness between people and the environment. Farming in Ghana also gave me a firsthand understanding of how access to fresh, healthy food can transform lives, something that resonates deeply with BCCF’s mission.
In my role as Administrative Assistant, I will be working behind the scenes to ensure that the daily operations of the organization run smoothly. My responsibilities include managing schedules, coordinating communications, organizing resources, and supporting the team in any way needed. By keeping things organized and efficient, I hope to create a strong foundation that allows everyone at BCCF to focus on their vital work. I am particularly excited to learn more about the programs BCCF offers and how they impact the community.
Additionally, I look forward to expanding my knowledge of sustainable agriculture and seeing how farming and food justice efforts here can inspire change on a larger scale.
While my primary focus will be on administrative duties, I also hope to bring my unique hobbies, interests, and skills to enrich my time at BCCF. One of my greatest passions is cooking, particularly experimenting with fresh ingredients to create delicious and nourishing meals. Growing up, I often helped prepare traditional Ghanaian dishes using produce from local farms, and I can’t wait to share some of those recipes with the BCCF community.
Another skill I bring is storytelling and writing. I enjoy crafting narratives that highlight meaningful work, and I hope to use this talent to share the inspiring stories of BCCF’s impact and the people who make it possible. Whether through blog posts, newsletters, or other forms of communication, I want to help amplify the voices of the community and celebrate the incredible progress being made.
I also enjoy problem-solving and bringing creative ideas to the table. Whether it’s organizing events, creating welcoming spaces on the farm, or brainstorming new ways to engage the community, I am excited to contribute in ways that go beyond my administrative responsibilities.
Joining BCCF is a significant milestone for me, as it allows me to combine my professional skills with my personal passions. I am grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside this amazing team and support a mission that aligns so closely with my own values.
